Happy new month,
As you have obviously gathered, this is my first newsletter and I am super excited to share it with you every first Monday of the month. With this, I round up all that is hot in Africa’s global development and social change space.
One thing we do and do well is curate and share new and existing global development publications.
Our April DevDispatch Recommends lists new publications released last month including the much-discussed and controversial UNFPA flagship report ‘My body is my own: Claiming the right to autonomy and self-determination’. Here is a visual presentation if you appreciate a good teaser. Our Top Five of the Week which we release every Tuesday gives you a wider pool of publications to rummage through so happy reading!
Still on the subject of things to read, I came across an interesting article by WEF that highlights how COVID-19 is democratising information through the Wiki Africa programme that translates online content into nearly 20 African languages.
From the world of the AfCFTA…..
If you have been with us for a minute, you know that our focus this year is sharing knowledge and information on the AfCFTA.
Countries continue to deposit their instruments of ratification and schedules of tariff concessions. Here is an infographic by TRALAC that compares the tariff offers so far.
For a feminist perspective, Fatimah Kelleher shares a Pan African Feminist Analysis of the AfCFTA and Women here.
By the way, our Reading Club on the AfCFTA is open for registration. Sign Up here
Looking forward to May…..
I am excited to participate at the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) and Renewable Energy in Africa event on 13 May 2021I also came across two training programs starting this month. One is a mentorship program for young people interested in sports management, communication, innovation and/ entrepreneurship. Deadline is 17 May. The other is an UNCTAD Online Course on Trade and Gender with an application deadline of 16 May.
If you enjoyed this Monthly Dispatch, I would love it if you shared it with a friend or two. They can sign up here. I would also love your feedback on what you would like me to include so that I can make this the best email you get every month.
Have an awesome week,Cynthia
